The following Q & A should help to understand the process:

 

Q. How long will it take to receive my permit once I've applied?

A. The Clark County Sheriff has UP TO 120 days to issue or deny.

     (most permits take the full 120 days in Clark County)

 

Q. Can I apply for my permit by mail?

A. No. You MUST appear in person to submit your application

    and be fingerprinted at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept.

    CCW detail.

 

Q. How much time should I allow for fingerprinting and submitting

     my application?

A. You should budget approximately 3 hours from start to finish.

     Las Vegas Metro CCW detail is open Mon-Fri from 8am to 3pm.

         

 

Q. Do I have to return to Nevada to receive my permit?

A. No. LVMPD CCW Detail will mail your permit, however, if you

    reside in Las Vegas, you may pick up your permit in person.

 

Q. How much does it cost for a Nevada Concealed Firearms Permit?

A. Expect to pay a total of $105.00 which includes fingerprinting,

    backround check, and application fees.

 

Q. How long is my permit valid?

A. Permits for residents are valid for 5 years and non        

    residents are valid for 3 years.

 

Q. Is my license valid in other states?

A. Nevada permits are currently honored in up to 12 other states.

 

Q. Does Nevada honor permits issued by other states?

A. No. Nevada only honors Nevada permits with the exception of

    Law Enforcement Personnel who qualify for nationwide carry

    priveledges under H.R. 218 (enacted in 2004).

 

 

Q. Can I rent a gun in Las Vegas to qualify?

A. NO. You must provide your own firearm. Unlike the rest of 

    Nevada, Clark County is firearm specific and serial numbers

    are recorded at the CCW detail. These do NOT appear on 

    the permits but are tied to the database.

 

Q. How much does it cost to register my firearm?

A.  Gun registration is FREE at any LVMPD substation. 

     Remember that Nevada law does not specifically

     require gun registration. This is applicable ONLY in 

     Clark County (Las Vegas).   

 

Q. Can I finish the entire process in a weekend?

A. NO. You can register your firearms, qualify on the range,

    and attend the academic portion up through any Saturday.

    

    The LVMPD CCW Detail is open ONLY----Monday-Friday

     8:30am to 3pm. 

 

    Most LVMPD substation will be open Saturdays for firearms
